Thought Leader Series: Jeff de Jesus, Infinit-O’s VP for Healthcare Information Management

We at Outsourcing Insider want our readers to get to know more about our company’s thought leaders and we think a sit-down with our company’s management team is the best way. Through our Thought Leaders Series, you will understand how they are making Infinit Outsourcing Inc. a preferred and trusted outsourcing partner.

Outsourcing Insider: Hi, how and why did you get into Healthcare Information Management?

Jeff de Jesus: I got into HIM when I worked for a Clinical Research Firm in the US. I was initially tasked to handle their Patient Services Center which is really a call center that hosts patient inquiries and some other services. I eventually found out that in order to serve patients better, I need to be well versed in the realm of the Healthcare Industry, specifically the Healthcare Information Management domain. I had to study everything that has to do with that domain and it was not easy. It took a lot of time and patience to master it. Interestingly enough, I’ve found all what I have been reading and studying to be very interesting.

Can you share with our readers what excites you the most about your position as VP for HIM and Client Support Services?

Jeff: I get to learn something new every day. It is not a routine task. What’s more exciting is that the HIM industry is still young, and the opportunities abound. I am excited for the workforce that is now working within the HIM domain because I know for a fact that they have room for exceptional growth in this industry. I also get the chance to work with amazing clients – and they rock!

How about the most challenging aspect of your job as VP?

Jeff: To be perfectly honest, nothing on top of my head. I think it is because I like what I am doing and I enjoy it.

I understand healthcare is a more traditional industry than, let’s say technology outsourcing. But are you seeing a possible change in this industry this year? Do you expect a major change in how medical billing companies perform this year?

Jeff: First off, the healthcare industry is not traditional. I see it as more of a collaboration of Healthcare, Information and Technology, Finance and Accounting, and Research. You must have in-depth understanding of all these components to do well in the healthcare industry. Second, because of the pending cuts in reimbursements of major insurance providers, practices are now looking at ways on how to reduce costs without sacrificing customer satisfaction and quality of work. This is a huge opportunity for Medical Billing Companies (especially those that also seek medical transcription solutions) and if that is capitalized, it will result to exponential growth.

What sets Infinit-O apart from its competitors with regard to healthcare outsourcing?

Jeff: Let me enumerate:

  1. We give emphasis on quality. We are ISO and HIPAA certified.
  2. Since we are relatively small in size compared to our competitors, we have the personal touch. It is like having your offsite team right next door from where the clients are.
  3. We have clients that are just amazing.
  4. Our staff is high-caliber and completely dedicated. They will give their 100% day in and day out.
  5. You have me. :)

What can you advise medical billing companies that are thinking of outsourcing? Will venturing to outsourcing affect their relationship with their clients?

Jeff: This is the usual concern we get with clients who are outsourcing the first time. And we have proven time and again that their relationship with clients will never have negative effects. As a matter of fact, our client’s customers love them more because they are able to deliver whatever is needed in a shorter time span than ever before. My advice to companies who are thinking of outsourcing? I know that they have heard nightmares about outsourcing in general, and I admit that it happened. But that is already a thing of the past. Companies right now, not only Infinit-O, but the industry as a whole, has made necessary steps to ensure that it will never happen again. Outsourcing is not all about cutting costs. It is more of making certain that deliverables are met – on time all the time, with top notch quality. That’s what we do at Infinit-O.
